Dr. Harald Eggebrecht studied literature, musicology and art in Munich and Berlin, and received his doctorate in 1978. From 1981 to 1987 he was the cultural editor of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk public radio and television station. He has since worked as a freelance author for the media, in particular the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. From 1995, he made the series Die großen Geiger (The Great Violinists) for Norddeutscher Rundfunk.
Dr. Eggebrecht is the author of publications on a range of subjects, including Goethe, Karl May, Sergiu Celibidache, Philipp Otto Runge, Henri Rousseau and Ludwig II. He has been a member of the judging panel for numerous international music competitions (ARD Competition, Munich; Gradus ad Parnassum, Vienna; Louis Spohr Competition, Weimar; Joseph Joachim Competition, Hanover; Leopold Mozart Competition, Augsburg). He has also been a lecturer in Weimar, Salzburgand Würzburg. His books Große Geiger (Great Violinists) (2005) and Große Cellisten (Great Cellists) (2007) are considered standard works.
Dr. Eggebrecht is the author of the classic video column Auftakt (Kick-off) for Süddeutsche Zeitung online. Under the pseudonym Percy Warberger, he wrote the sequel novel Das große Spiel (The Great Game) in collaboration with Sten Nadolny and Michael Winter, which appeared in the feature pages of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in 1994/1995.
